Amentum is currently seeking a Materials Engineer II to support the PM Soldier Survivability (PM SSV) project office under Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier, Ft. Belvoir, VA. This position will afford you an opportunity to be part of a dynamic and cohesive team whose mission is to provide and rapidly deliver enhanced protection, individual equipment, and aviation life support capabilities, which provides combat overmatch and facilitates mission execution.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform systems engineering and integration with other items of clothing and individual equipment, weapon systems, combat vehicles and airframes, etc.
  • Assist in planning design approach from statements of requirements, and conduct studies for the purpose of developing new and improved products and component materials.
  • Create technical drawings, specifications, and physical characteristics/properties of items as they affect the design, development, manufacture, end-item use.
  • Consider the properties of various textile, chemical, plastic, ceramic, metallic and synthetic materials to assess their ability to meet military requirements as components of military equipment for production and field use.
  • Conduct market research, maintain currency in knowledge of civilian and military material research and production.
  • Assist in constructing test prototype models and modified designs to remedy defects or to improve performance.
  • Review test plans, procedures, and reports for technical adequacy on assigned programs, for both Government and contractor tests, as well as all failure reports.
  • Assist with reviews and evaluations of system performance against specification requirements, monitors and assesses field performance, and assesses risk of meeting user and specification requirements.
  • Determine the need for field or laboratory tests. Develop and execute simple to complex test plans and designs of experiments. Analyze the results of tests using a variety of tools, including statistical methods.
  • Make recommendations regarding suitability of materials, designs, and products for use in military equipment.
  • Review program management documents to ensure accuracy and adequacy of technical content.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent and five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Must have an Active US Government Secret Clearance. Please note US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Government Clearance.
  • Experience managing materials engineering on assigned programs with oversight from Senior Materials Engineer
  • Equivalent or experience commensurate with ASM Certified Materials Engineer
