Purpose and Scope:
Perform and oversee pest management and vector control services in conformance with the Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPMP) to prevent and control pests including: mosquitos, ticks, filth, biting, and nuisance flies, cockroaches, ants, fleas, stored-product pests (SPP), termites, bees/wasps (to include removal), silverfish, ants, spiders, snakes, scorpions, beetles, crickets, grasshoppers, beetles, rodents, bats, feral dogs and cats, birds, bird nests removal (in facilities or for operational reasons), other nuisance animals and wildlife, and unwanted vegetation and invasive plants. This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Muwaffaq-Salti Air Base in Amman, Jordan.
Essential Responsibilities:
Oversee and perform all aspects of the pest management and vector control requirement in accordance with the contract.
Work jointly with the military pest management personnel in performing contract requirements.
Responsible for mixing, loading and applying pesticides.
Perform pest management functions, to include pest surveillance and control measures for invertebrate/vertebrate pests and weeds, to mitigate health risks, threats to DoD working animals and material damage.
Perform scheduled pest control services to include both inspections and treatments of the following categories of pests: nuisance pests, disease vector and health pests, vegetation management and vertebrate pests.
Provide unscheduled pest control services in response to changes in installation occupancy, occupancy in living quarters, seasonal/cyclic pest or vector life-cycle changes, trouble calls, weather events or emergencies.
Employ pest management methods to monitor and control pests including arthropods, mollusks, rodents, certain wildlife or nuisance animals (such as bats, pigeons, birds, venomous snakes and scorpions, dogs, cats, and primates) and weeds that may cause an economic loss, health hazards or degrade morale.
Perform vegetation management and control as required by contract.
Perform pest control cleanup services as required by contract.
Operate mobile equipment with spray attachments.
Inventory control of pesticides.
Provide monthly reports and attend meetings as required by contract.
Maintain a book of labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all pesticides on site.
Other duties as required.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience and expertise related specifically to Pest Management and Vector Control.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing, leading or supervising the pest management and vector program.
Must hold a valid/current DoD, State and/or Host Nation (HN) pesticide applicator certificate, where the HN pesticide applicator program has been reviewed and approved by the responsible Pest Management Consultant (PMC), in order to apply pesticides on base.
Must have training and/or certification/licensing that is equivalent to the USEPA from the host nation, DoD, State or contractor’s country of origin with zero discrepancies allowed.
Must have the equivalent to DoD training: 1) Core Phase, 2) Category 6: Right-of-Way Control, 3) Category 7: Industrial, Institutional, Structural, and Health-Related Pest Control and 4) Category 8: Public Health-Related Pest Control training.
Must have the full Rabies Pre-exposure prophylactic immunization series before arriving at the duty location to begin animal control or pest management duties.
Must either be DOD Pest applicator certified or must take the pest management QA training so they are familiar with regulations and reporting procedures. This course is available as a Computer Based Training.
Applicators are required to periodically recertify to maintain certification, based on DoD, State or HN requirements.
Proficient in Microsoft computer operating systems and Microsoft Office software.
Must be able to maintain licenses and certifications required by state and federal regulations for chemical applications relating to grounds and pest control.
Must be (U.S.) state-certified in appropriate categories (appropriate in the types of pest control work required).
Required to periodically recertify to maintain certification, based on DoD, State or HN requirements.
Prior overseas government contracting experience preferred.
Strong ability to lead and work as a member of a diverse, dynamic team.
Solid communications and organization skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work jointly with the military pest management team.
Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
Possess a valid state issued driver’s license and passport.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Typical maintenance environment with associated hazards.
Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
Must be physically able to obtain certifications required to perform job duties.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
May be required to handle hazardous materials.
Will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
