Plumber, Lead
The Plumber Lead will be based at one of Amentum in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will be responsible for assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures and will report to the Plumbing Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
DUTIES:
- Ensure a safe work environment by following all safety procedures and promoting safety as a top priority.
- Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Quality Assurance (QA) standards; provide required information to support proper documentation.
- Lead and supervise a team of local plumbers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems for water supply, drainage, and sanitation.
- Read and interpret simple building diagrams and plumbing layouts to identify materials, tools, and work sequences.
- Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, and plumbing fixtures (e.g., sinks, toilets, showers, tanks) using appropriate tools and techniques including threading, welding, soldering, or sealing.
- Test plumbing systems for leaks using air or water pressure gauges.
- Maintain existing plumbing systems by replacing worn parts (e.g., washers, gaskets), clearing blockages, and fixing leaks or pipe bursts.
- Maintain accurate records of daily tasks, materials used, and issues resolved.
- Ensure the plumbing shop is kept in good order, including management of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Support training of junior plumbers or helpers by demonstrating safe and effective work methods.
- The Lead Plumber may be responsible for supervising staff of Foreign Nationals, completing reports and performing administrative duties, and is responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment and spare parts for the plumbing shop.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
REQUIRED:

Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:
- At least three (3) years of plumbing experience in commercial, industrial, or residential settings.
- Proven experience installing and repairing water lines, fixtures, tanks, and drainage systems.
- Ability to read basic plumbing diagrams or follow verbal/written instructions.
- Past work in a team environment, preferably under foreign or contract-based supervision.
·Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic understanding of plumbing codes or regulations applicable in the local country or region.
- Ability to work well with team members from different nationalities and backgrounds.
- Good physical condition and ability to work in outdoor or indoor environments under various weather conditions.
- Capable of learning new skills or work methods as instructed.
- Basic organizational skills to manage daily tasks and shop resources.
- Willingness to follow safety rules and quality standards.
- Basic computer use is preferred but not required (training can be provided).

Education:
- Completion of secondary school (high school or equivalent) preferred.
- Vocational training in plumbing or participation in a recognized apprenticeship program is desirable but not mandatory if work experience is sufficient.

Passport, Licenses and Certifications:
- As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts, candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.
- Valid drivers’ license.
- Local plumbing certification (if applicable in the home country).

Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to include reading and writing to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.
DESIRED:
- Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
- Experience working with Amentum.
WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:
This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to an extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
