About the Opportunity Amentum South Africa (Pty) Ltd, in Cape Town, who predominately work in the Nuclear (Energy) Industry for Eskom, have carried out numerous engineering, procurement and construction contracts to support operations for the South African public electricity utility. At Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in Cape Town, our projects range from providing additional spent fuel cooling capacity, station blackout mitigation and new hydrogen production and bulk storage plant, through to replacing the Data Acquisition system and Fire Detection system
Our largest single contract to date is for essential engineering modifications to allow for power uprate associated with the installation of new steam generators. This is part of a $1.2 billion (ZAR 20 billion) program for a 20-year life extension at Koeberg, which is South Africa’s sole nuclear power plant and generates 5% of the country’s electricity.
We are recruiting for a Project Manager experienced in Engineering Construction, with a passion to lead and develop our project teams to achieve successful delivery of our portfolio of on-site, Electro / Mechanical, EPC projects.
Ideally you will have fixed price EPC project management experience, be suitably qualified (engineering / technical / project management qualifications), with a field of experience to draw upon. Key skills and responsibilities include;
- Project and construction site management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Strong project finances and cost engineering experience (estimating, quoting, budget tracking, forecasting, reporting).
- Proposals, bids, quotes and pricing, business and tender development, commercially focused
Strong leadership and ability to structure and manage the project resources. Lead the team and hold everyone in the project team accountable and responsible, - Project scope control and change management - scope definition and distribution, NEC Compensation Events (notify, track, calculate, quote, assess, defend, motivate, negotiate), claims, impact assessments, change orders, instructions, etc.
- Risk Management - Early Warnings, Risk Registers, mitigating, costing, etc.
- NEC contract and commercial management - correspondence and notifications
- Project Planning management - ensure schedule compliance and tracking, liaise between planning and technical team, providing updates and reporting on the plan, understanding and interrogating the plan. Decide and give direction on planning actions (acceleration, crashing, resource loading and optimization).
- Subcontractor management and control (progress tracking, interface management, scope, quality, cost)
- Governance and QA - ensure the project follows all Amentum and client procedures on heavily regulated projects (Eskom / Nuclear),
- Good EQ, people manager and must be able to be client facing in order to build those relationships.
Here's What You'll Need - Degree or equivalent in an engineering, construction, or other technically related field (preferably Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical / Mechatronics, QS, Commercial and pricing experience.
- Technical on construction site Project experience (mechanical, piping, valves, etc.)
- NEC Contract management experience - Early Warnings, Compensation Events,
- Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility,
- Experience of managing contractors throughout complex construction projects, in a regulated environment (costs, schedule, compliance),
- Practitioner and / or Knowledge of Project Management Practices (PMP, etc.) beneficial
- Demonstrate success in developing and managing:
- Multi-discipline EPC projects (Engineering design, Procurement, field execution)
- Project Controls: of costs; risk; schedule and change
- Close out of commercial claims and the associated negotiations, budgeting, bidding, quotes, cost controls
- Strong planning and organising skills including the ability to manage several work streams simultaneously.
- Determination and focus to drive projects through to implementation.
