Amentum is seeking a Safety Technician to join our team!

This position is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with legal guidelines.  Additional duties are to ensure employees, contractors, and vendors are compliant with regulations, conduct assessments of facilities and job sites, document, and report findings, and implement EHS initiatives and programs.

Responsibilities:

  •  Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company environmental, safety, and health regulations.

  • The EH&S Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering safety, health, environmental protection, and substance abuse prevention programs affecting employee and public safety, occupational health, fire protection and prevention, and equipment and property protection.

  • Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.

  • Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.

  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence, and procedures manuals.

  • Establishes and maintains licenses and permits as required.

  • Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.

  • May function as a generalist responsible for multiple EH&S facets on a small project or as a specialist on larger projects.

  • Under minimal supervision, responsible for the most complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with EH&S standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains expert knowledge of specific government agency requirements. Utilizes advanced techniques and diversified knowledge of environmental principles.

  • Assignments are usually self-initiated.

  • Uses independent judgment and discretion in data analysis and problem resolution.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures.

  • Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be present in the work area.

  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.

  • Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards.

  • Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.

  • Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.

  • Prepares reports and recommends corrective action.

  • Work includes technical responsibility for a major phase or component of a project.

  • Acts as a lead role for a team of EH&S specialists and/or support personnel.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or demonstrated equivalent.

  • 6 years' experience. Certification preferred.

  • Pursuing and/or completed EH&S related professional certifications including, but not limited to the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Certified Ergonomic Associate (CEA), and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certifications.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

  • This position may require a valid Driver’s License.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  • Five years of maintenance experience in one of the following trades, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience: Industrial HVAC/ Industrial Mechanical Machine Repair, or Automotive Repair.

  • Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

  • May require additional licensing per state regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Some tasks will require the ability to walk extensively throughout facilities during a workday.

  • Requires the ability to climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs as needed during a workday.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, kneel, reach/stretch, and move in a 90-degree fashion during workday.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.

  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access data bases, to send/receive messages and to prepare documents.

  • Requires ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other Amentum, customer and/or vendor locations in the area, as well as some air travel to more distant locations.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.

  • Requires some moving of light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets and other storage locations.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required.

  • May be required to work holidays and weekends.

  • Work schedules can change based on critical business needs.
