The Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), SENTRY modernization and Cloud Migration Services is modernizing its inmate management system. SENTRY is the Federal Bureau of Prison’s (BOP) primary mission support database. The system collects, maintains, and tracks critical inmate information, including inmate location, medical history, behavior history, and release data. BOP is migrating SENTRY to the AWS cloud which is a critical element of BOP’s modernization program to transition from the current mainframe COBOL environment to a modern Java-based SENTRY application in AWS GovCloud using the MSS mainframe modernization toolset.

This is a remote position.

Tasks and Responsibilities (not all inclusive):

  • The Trainers provide training development, support, and delivery for end-users and Tier 1 Helpdesk via Context Sensitive Help and virtual instructor-led training (vILT) for end users and administrative staff to support the system.
  • Provide onsite support to end-users during User Acceptance Testing.
  • Must have software application training experience for end-user training development and delivery.
  • Provide technical writing for system documentation, end-user documentation, and training documentation.
  • Apply the appropriate Instructional Systems Design (ISD) practices and principles to tailor end user documentation (EUD) to the requirements of BOP.
  • Work with the Change Management Lead and Bureau staff to produce work products according to the Change Management Plan.
  • Assist with Training Needs Assessments, stakeholder communications, conduct Knowledge Transfer from Bureau staff to the ISD Team, and document User Stories (Requirements) for User Guides.

Required Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years training experience to include:
    • Implementing Training Strategy, Training Plans, and End User Training Materials
    • Developing and delivering end-user training for software application development
    • Delivering Training to End Users
    • Developing Context Sensitive Help including Job Aids, Videos, Use Cases, Simulations
    • Creating Section 508 Compliant Documentation
    • Inventory, analyze, and leverage existing EUD, templates, and supporting documentation where applicable
    • Work directly with customer to define the optimal style and format, using an approved Style Guide and integrating BOP branding, logos, and images
    • Developing checklists and style guides to conform to defined style, format, and branding
    • Experience working with a Learning Management System (LMS) to post and manage training content
    • Proficient in Adobe Captivate for building interactive eLearning modules
    • Skilled in using Camtasia to create software recordings and walkthroughs
    • Experience using Audiate to script, edit, and add audio narration to training products
    • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
    • Organized and flexible
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain Bureau of Prisons MBI or BI Security Clearance.

      Note: U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident alien status is required to obtain a Bureau of Prisons MBI or BI Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Works in an Agile Environment and supports multiple agile teams
  • Familiarity with GitLab
  • Follows an Agile Framework to develop user stories to reflect BOP’s requirements for the User Guide Standards, Style Guides, User Guide Documentation, Quick Reference Guides
