Job DescriptionThe Space Nuclear Propulsion (SNP) intern duties will include:
- Working in a controlled lab.
- Working with NASA department level PI for R&D specific to SNP.
- Supporting Configuration Management and Systems
- Data interpretation.
- Data reduction using engineering tools such as MatLab, Python, WindPlot and Excel.
Expectations included in the ASED Internship: - You are expected to have a valid driver’s license, have access to an automobile, and be able to drive yourself to work locations.
- NOTICE: As of May 7, your state-issued drivers’ license must be a Star License, since NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center is located on the Army’s Redstone Arsenal, a Federal installation.
- You will be expected to attend MSFC facility scheduled tours, Technical Fellow talks, luncheons, and training sessions in addition to your work.
- We highly encourage you to participate in activities outside of work with your fellow interns. These activities will be scheduled, with your input, by your social coordinators and will be beneficial in forming a cohesive group and lasting friendships
Qualifications:Current enrollment in Engineering or related STEM field leading to a BS degree is required. Degree program at an ABET accredited institution preferred.
Must be able to provide own transportation.
The successful candidate must:
- Show initiative and be proactive to make connections and build relationships with key players on the tasks.
- Have skills in MS Office Tools.
- Maintain an overall average of 3.0 and must have demonstrated a very strong aptitude in major field.

Essential Functions Work Environment: General office environment (100%). Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<5%)
Physical Requirements: Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Amentum facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines: Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance: Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions: The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
