Responsibilities:The Space Launch System (SLS) Booster Element Resident Management Office (RMO) engineer will provide on-site Booster Element Office (BEO) representation for Booster hardware development and production activities at the Booster prime contractor facilities in Promontory, Utah.
- Provide on-site BEO representation to the prime contractor.
- Provide multi-discipline, subject matter expert, (flight hardware, materials, manufacturing, processing, analysis, and tooling) expertise and support to the BEO.
- Work with and represent responsible hardware subsystem managers by providing on-site insight into planning, processes, issues, and resolutions.
- Provide the SLS BEO with status of all aspects of Booster design, analysis, manufacturing, testing, and transportation of Booster hardware and associated production support equipment.
- Provide assessments of SLS Booster programmatic and technical products in support of applicable design and operations reviews.
- Coordinate and communicate with other MSFC/KSC organizations as needed.
- Provide the BEO with review and advice on all Booster change package engineering and material review boards.
Qualifications: A degree in Engineering, Science or related field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 14 years of experience; Masters with at least 18 years of experience, or a BS with at least 20 years of experience.
The following skills/experience are required:
- Applicable experience with a comprehensive knowledge of SLS and heritage Booster element hardware (design, production, assembly, operations, and flight).
- Extensive experience with SLS and heritage Booster production planning, and quality is required. Knowledge of SLS and heritage hardware production processing facilities, equipment, and tooling at the Promontory/Clearfield site is required.
- Experience and detailed knowledge of Booster production operations is required.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills dealing with a technically diverse group of personnel (technician/engineer/quality/management) with a broad range of experience is required.
The following skills/experience are highly desired:
- Ability to effectively communicate significant programmatic/technical issues and potential resolution options to appropriate BEO personnel.
- Working knowledge of the Booster element including an understanding of Booster unique systems engineering and CM/DM.
- Previously demonstrated effective working relationship with Booster design/assembly personnel.
Essential Functions Work Experience This position is for work to be done in Promontory, Utah. Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (10%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time(100%)
Physical RequirementsRequires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and MachinesRequires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
AttendanceNormal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential FunctionsThe ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
