Amentum is seeking a Submarine Engineering Technician IV to join our Norfolk, VA team to support MARMC code 274.  This role focuses on the submarine Towed Array Handling System (TAHS).

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance, industrial support or both to evaluate, troubleshoot, test, repair, and provide technical oversight and guidance to correct equipment deficiencies of the TAHS equipment on submarines.

  • Provide technical oversight for towed array on-load/off-load evolutions as it relates to the Towed Array Handling System (TAHS).

  • Perform TB-16 stowage tube and guide tube inspections for TAHS variants.

  • Provide technical and logistical assistance via telephone, e-mail, chat, and naval message for both deployed and local submarines in matters associated with TAHS equipment.

  • Provide onboard maintenance training to the ship’s force personnel during technical assistance visits to improve proficiency in the operation and maintenance of TAHS equipment towed systems.

  • Provide a written Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) and TAVR worksheet data upon completion of FTA.

  • Provide onboard support for the towed systems’ portion of TSRA, including the Pre/Post-Deployment Maintainability Assessment (PDMA).

  • Provide management and coordination support for Total Ship Readiness Plan (TSRP), planning and process improvement initiatives, activities, semi-annual TSRP conferences and meetings. This includes preparation and development of briefs, presentations, on-site preparation and participation, and follow-up activities including tracking and accomplishment of action items.

  • Provide inventory control and a periodic NAVSEA S&TE calibration report for NAVSEA special S&TE utilized to support MARMC and other RMCs' towed systems activities.

  • Experience with fabricating, procurement, repairing, refurbishing, maintaining, and calibrating special S&TE.

  • Knowledge of inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and refurbishing hydraulic filter rigs annually.

  • Knowledge of testing, distributing, repairing, and maintaining the improved Towed Array Power Supply Dummy Load boxes.

  • Provide onboard technical assistance for conducting ship checks and AIT/modernization.

  • Maintain and track towed systems S&TE for use during tech assists, inspections, assessments, and grooms.

  • Experience with fabricating, procuring, repairing, refurbishing, maintaining, calibrating, packaging, shipping, and inventorying fleet S&TE. Includes inboard, outboard, and inter-connecting cables, connectors, pins, fittings, molds, and materials.

  • Experience in developing, reviewing, and providing comments on engineering change proposals, data, documentation, and drawings for special S&TE.

  • Experience in performing the following:

    • Generate and submit Formal Work Package (FWP) IAW NAVSEA TS9090-310 and the JFMM to MARMC C274.

    • Procure all required material.

    • Draft Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) in Microsoft Project electronic format and deliver to MARMC C274.

  • Provide support for the AIT Government Lead with a SHIPALT walk-through and/or close out with the respective submarine.

  • Experience in performing surface refurbishment of Rim Drive Drum Dual Groove Pair to the tolerances (750-1000 micro inch range) noted on NAVSEA Dwg. No. 9818874.

  • Provide engineering and technical support for OA-9070 pinch roller assemblies, either pier side or during a Selected Restricted Availability (SRA). Tasking can include installation, removal, inspection, cleaning, and testing.

  • Knowledge in performing PRA maintenance, inspection, and refurbishment IAW the latest revision and change of MS 5850-081-150 (LA Class) and MS 5950-081-122 (VA Class). Contractor shall have the capability to complete and ship within (7) business days of receipt. With structural, base metal repairs, add three (3) days to the complete and ship requirement for a total of ten (10) days after receipt.

  • Knowledge of procuring, fabricating, inspecting, packaging, shipping, inventorying, and maintaining items required to perform maintenance, inspection, and refurbishment. Items include compensator, PRA rollers, springs, roller arms, mounting brackets, frames, foundations, fasteners, parts, material, S&TE, and similar.

  • Provide engineering and technical support for OA-9070/B/BQQ series TBDD assemblies, either pier side or during an SRA. It can include installation, removal, inspection, cleaning, and testing.

  • Experience with performing TBDD maintenance, inspection, and refurbishment IAW the latest revision and change of MS 5850-081-219 (LA Class). Contractor shall have the capability to complete and ship within (7) business days of receipt. With structural, base metal repairs, add three (3) days to the complete and ship requirement for a total of ten (10) days after receipt.

  • Provide a pre-refurbishment TBDD inspection report for Government review and approval of each TBDD refurbishment.

  • Knowledge in procuring, fabricating, inspecting, packaging, shipping, inventorying, and maintaining items required to perform maintenance, inspection, and refurbishment. Items include TBDD pulleys, belts, tensioner components, mounting brackets, frames, foundations, fasteners, parts, material, S&TE, and similar.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have an Active Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain an Active Secret Clearance. 

  • Six (6) years full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of mechanical/electrical/electronic or mechanical systems/equipment.

  • Must have experience with the following systems:

    • OA-9070 A/B/E Variants

    • OK 276 ( )/A/B/C/D/T Variants

    • OK-418

    • OK-542 /A

    • OK-634

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years full-time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test, and/or repair of submarine mechanical and or electrical and or electronic systems/equipment.

  • Experience in evaluating the material condition of ship systems and implementing corrective action 

  • Prior experience supporting MARMC C274
