Submarine Technical Support Center (STSC) in Groton, CT is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Submarine Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E), Nuclear Trained Electrical Technician to become part of the team. You will be working with a team of highly dedicated and experienced personnel in maintaining the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Force Warfighting Capability.

You will provide technical services (troubleshooting, testing, operation, repair/overhaul, maintenance oversight, training, grooming) in connection with on-scene direct fleet support of the following major 688/726/21/774 class systems:

  • Static Power Generation, to include inverters, frequency converters and frequency changers

  • Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) and all associated components such as shaft grounding etc.

  • Radiometric Thermal Imaging and associated report generation.

  • Control systems to include; controllers, temperature/pressure switches, transducers, sensors and analog/digital displays.

  • Special frequency (400hz) motor generation and distribution systems

  • CKT Breakers

  • 60/400Hz Electrical Distribution/Switchboard systems

  • 450 Ton A/C systems

  • Galley Equipment

  • All type AC/DC Motors/Controllers

  • SSMG (Ship Service Motor Generators) including repair/overhaul

  • SSTG (Ship Service Turbine Generators) including governors, grooming, and magnetic bearings

  • Diesel Generator electrical systems and controllers

  • Ventilation system electrical controllers

  • Trim/Drain system electrical controls

  • Steering/Diving electrical controls including grooming

  • HPAC electrical controls (Including Sauer Types)

  • Sanitation, Distillation, Dehydration, Refrigeration electrical controls

  • PLC microprocessor controllers used on HPAC related hydraulics, refrigeration, sanitation, distillation and air dehydration systems.

  • Integrated Low Pressure Electrolyzer (ILPE) and all associated components

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active SECRET US government clearance. Note: US citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of full-time engineering experience onboard submarines in the operation, maintenance, installation, test, or repair of combat systems and/or weapons handling equipment. Experience in evaluating the material condition of ship systems and implementing corrective action.

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Eight (8) years of full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, or repair mechanical/electrical/electronic

    systems/equipment.

  • Must have a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of assigned systems to permit rapid analysis and resolution of atypical problems.

    This knowledge may be gained through formal education, specialty training and/or extensive experience in a responsible position in the field.

  • Must have mastered specialty field to the extent that the you can resolve problems which normally confound others.

  • Must be thoroughly familiar with related engineering disciplines (such as electrical. electronic, mechanical, structural, etc.) in order to analyze problems from an overall system viewpoint.

  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy specifications and regulations pertaining to design, maintenance, safety and operation of assigned equipment/systems.

Service Contract Act (SCA)

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is between $45.00 - $52.00 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
