Overview:

Provide System Engineering & Integration (SEI) and Integrated Logistics/Product Support (ILS/IPS) support relative to in-space vehicles, habitats, launch vehicles, ground, manufacturing, test, and support systems for the MSFC System Analysis Branch (EV73) supporting NASA programs and projects as needed.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will coordinate and interface with multiple engineering disciplines, system elements, cross-program elements, international partners, and customers, as well as participate in reviews, meetings, working groups, task teams, and trade studies. The candidate will provide leadership and/or support for the development of key systems engineering and logistics products. The successful candidate will work with NASA customers/partners from inception through development to ensure stakeholder needs for sustainment and operations are satisfied. The successful candidate will support sustainment operations.

The candidate will provide and perform the following tasks:

  • Provide SEI and IPS support relative to the design and operations phases of NASA programs to ensure project life cycle goals for sustainment and operations are achievable.
  • Lead and/or support the development of key IPS products to include the Product Support Strategy (PSS), Life Cyle Sustainment Plan (LCSP), and Maintenance Concept Plans.
  • Apply tailored approaches for implementation of MIL-HDBK-502, Product Support Analysis, and GEIA-STD-0007, Logistics Product Data, for large complex programs and stand-alone projects. Manage and/or support product integration with a Logistics Product Data (LPD) database.
  • Lead and/or support Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) of maintenance items.
  • Provide technical integration with other engineering disciplines, elements, and international partners, including risk-based insight/oversight.
  • Provide program level SEI coordination for requirements development and review.
  • Provide design influence for effective logistics and maintenance operations.
  • Utilize the Design for Support and Support the Design supportability approach.
  • Review and assess supportability requirements, plans, logistics/product support analysis reports, reliability and maintainability analysis products, logistics databases and simulation models.
  • Apply knowledge and expertise to review and interpret technical drawings.
  • Review, understand, interpret, assess, and analyze Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Requirements Documents (IRDs).
  • Perform Verification and Validation of design and performance requirements related to in-space and launch vehicles.
  • Apply knowledge/familiarity of life cycle processing of flight hardware.
  • Perform document and milestone review activities, to include major milestones such as System Requirement Review (SRR), System Design Review (SDR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), and Design Certification Review (DCR).
  • Some travel required.


Qualifications

A degree in Industrial, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering, Operations or Logistics management, or related field is required. A degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Masters with at least 13 total years of relevant experience or a BS with at least 15 total years of relevant experience in industrial or systems engineering and integration.

The candidate is required to have:

  • At least 15 total years of relevant experience working System Engineering and/or Integrated Product Support for complex systems of systems.

  • Demonstrated experience using and/or managing a GEIA-STD-0007 or S1000L compatible logistics product database.

  • Demonstrated experience with defining, developing, and managing requirements for complex systems of systems, maintaining an approved system baseline.

  • Demonstrated experience working across organizational boundaries and engineering disciplines to facilitate and execute program systems engineering tasks and resolve systems integration issues.

  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relations, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).



Desired (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as discriminating factors in selecting applicants):

  • Experience/knowledge supporting spaceflight program operations.

  • Experience/knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of NASA spacecraft, launch vehicles, or human spaceflight programs.



Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (10%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and other facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
