About the Role:
In this role, you will provide specialist Work Health, Safety and Environment (WHSE) and Facilities Governance Advisor for the Australian Warfare Systems Program Office (AWSPO). You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and assuring governance frameworks that ensure AWSPO remains compliant with legislative, regulatory, and Defence WHSE and Facilities requirements.


Working under limited direction within an integrated workforce, you will coordinate assurance activities, manage contractor verification, oversee facilities governance, and provide clear, well‑written advice to senior leaders, project teams, and stakeholders. You will engage across Defence, industry partners, and enterprise forums to identify, manage, and escalate WHSE and Facilities risks that may impact capability delivery.


This role suits someone with strong governance experience, excellent written communication skills, and the ability to influence positive outcomes through effective stakeholder engagement.


This full-time position is based at Williamtown, near Newcastle. 

What’s Involved:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain AWSPO WHSE & Facilities governance and assurance policies, processes, and procedures
  • Manage the AWSPO WHSE Contractor Verification Program, including review of WHSE reporting from industry partners and escalation of risks and issues to the Executive
  • Execute WHSE governance and verification in accordance with CASG CASsafe policy and relevant legislative, policy, and regulatory frameworks
  • Maintain the AWSPO Facilities Register, including tracking estate works and raising condition‑related risks and issues
  • Coordinate execution of Head of Resident Unit (HRU) responsibilities in collaboration with Senior Leaders
  • Coordinate, monitor, and report on governance compliance, identifying risks and determining appropriate mitigation actions
  • Provide advice on product and project facilities requirements
  • Provide WHSE & Facilities advice and support to internal and external stakeholders
  • Build, sustain, and leverage strong stakeholder relationships to achieve governance and compliance outcomes
  • Represent AWSPO at internal and external WHSE & Facilities governance meetings and forums
  • Manage Sentinel reporting for AWSPO and industry partner events and hazards
  • Coordinate internal and external reporting of COMCARE notifiable incidents
  • Produce clear, accurate, and well‑structured WHSE & Facilities briefs, reports, correspondence, and governance documentation, including Power BI metrics

Who we’re Looking For:

You are an experienced governance professional with strong written communication skills and a collaborative mindset. You are comfortable engaging senior stakeholders, interpreting policy, managing risk, and providing clear advice. You prioritise effectively, take initiative, and apply sound judgement to ensure WHSE and Facilities risks are identified, communicated, and managed appropriately.

You’ll Need:

  • Demonstrated experience in governance, assurance, or compliance roles, ideally within Defence, government, or other highly regulated environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust, influence outcomes, and provide confident advice
  • Desirable experience in risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting
  • Strong writing skills, with experience preparing briefs, reports, correspondence, and governance documentation for senior stakeholders
  • Knowledge of WHSE legislation, policies, and governance frameworks, ideally including CASG CASsafe
  • Experience managing contractor verification, assurance activities, and compliance reporting
  • Ability to analyse and report governance data, with Power BI experience highly desirable
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • NV1 security clearance (Australian citizenship required)

Required Security Clearance Level: Minimum NV1
Location: RAAF Base Williamtown / Newcastle
Weekly Hours: 40 Hours (Monday-Friday) Onsite
