CONSTRUCTION PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT

Summary:

Contract position for the management of a design/build contract for a two story dormitory building at the Bitmiger Training Area in Almaty, Kazakhstan in support of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).  Construction Project Superintendent will supervise QC Manager, Site Safety and Health Officer, and trades personnel during planning and  construction phase.  Will coordinate with senior operations management, engineering, and participate in project planning, constructability design review, and implement the entirety of the construction scope. 

Position Responsibilities (not all inclusive):

  • Plan and supervise the activities of Trades personnel in relation to construction.
  • Supervise and perform hands-on tasks on the construction projects following project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Perform project planning, coordination, and scheduling.
  • Create project updates, progress reports, and completion reports in electronic format as required. 
  • Regularly update senior management of the status of the project.  
  • Report project progress in relation to project schedules, and update schedules at required intervals. 
  • Identify required design and specification changes prior to construction. 
  • May perform construction related tasks in and around undeveloped and remote areas as well as in adverse conditions.
  • Accomplish the project through the utilization of design drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain effective communication between departments and represent department as needed at operational meetings 
  • Assist with ensuring accurate material and labor charge code use, and accurate timecard submittal. 
  • Interact with the USACE, Kazakh military officials and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person.  
  • Perform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind and extreme hot and cold weather. 
  • Routinely utilize independent judgment and discretion to identify potential issues and solve problems.
  • Proactively identify any unsafe conditions, hazards, or Code violations and communicate them effectively.  
  • Evaluate labor and material needs for tasking and assign duties to subordinate staff as appropriate. 
  • Interpret schedules, design drawings, specifications and diagrams to carry out tasking .
  • Routinely inspect worksites and evaluate staff tasking.
  • Evaluate and identify job hazards and effectively communicate information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and daily crew meetings. 
  • Handle confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy and with the highest degree of professionalism. 
  • Communicate professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, Quality Assurance procedures, and safety practices. 

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

  • The project superintendent must have a minimum of 10 years experience in construction with at least 5 of those years in a supervisory role on projects similar in size and complexity.
  • The individual must be or become familiar with the requirements of EM 385-1-1 and have experience in the areas of hazard identification and safety compliance.
  • The individual must be capable of interpreting a critical path schedule and construction drawings.

Expected Skills and Competencies: 

  • Minimum intermediate level computer skills with MS Office Suite experience to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Possess the competencies, willingness, and ability to perform the duties of position. 

Preferred: 

  • Fluent in English and Russian or Kazakh.
  • Experience working in remote locations or extreme environments (temperature, elevation, known hazards). 
  • Experience with Visio, AutoCAD or other design or engineering software. 
  • Experience with Primavera P6 scheduling software.
