Purpose: The Gunsmith II inspects and repairs all Army Prepositioned Stocks – 2 crew-served small arms. Determines serviceability of weapons, sub-assemblies, and parts. Diagnoses and determines remedies for failures commonly encountered in the repair of small arms using a variety of diagnostic techniques and TMDE with little or no supervision. Mounts and dismounts coaxial and pintle mounted weapons as required. Assists with inventories. Safely uses common hand tools and shop equipment effectively without assistance. May instruct other employees in proper repair maintenance procedures. Required to conduct and/or receive cross training as directed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Inspects and repairs all Army Prepositioned Stocks – 2 crew-served small arms.
  • Determines serviceability of weapons, sub-assemblies, and parts.
  • Diagnoses and determines remedies for failures commonly encountered in the repair of small arms using a variety of diagnostic techniques and TMDE with little or no supervision.
  • Mounts and dismounts coaxial and pintle mounted weapons as required.
  • Assists with inventories.
  • Safely uses common hand tools and shop equipment effectively without assistance.
  • May instruct other employees in proper repair maintenance procedures.
  • Required to conduct and/or receive cross training as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a daily timesheet and man-hour utilization report reflecting accurate use of time.

Qualification & Experience Requirements: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • 2-3 years’ experience in military small arms repair required.
  • Must be able to mount and dismount weapons systems.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all Logistic Information System (LIS) access requirements (Common Access Card).

Preferred:

  • US Army MOS 45B / 91F -Small Arms Artillery Repairer, USMC MOS 2111 Small Arms Repairer/Technician or NATO military organization equivalent.
  • Military experience.

Specialized knowledge and skills:

  • Experienced using Global Combat Support System Army (GCSS-A) preferred.
  • Experienced using the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Unique Logistics Support Applications (TULSA) Army Enterprise System Integration Program (AESIP) preferred.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Additional Requirements:

1) LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license is required.

2) PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Stooping, sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds by themselves-51+ with the assistance of another person, touching dexterity (hand and finger), carrying, clear seeing-general, close vision, color perception, clear speech, driving vehicle, moving objects.
  • Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively up to a 48-hour work week.
  • Must be able to endure long hours (overtime as required).

3) WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to situations where risk of electrical shock and vibration exist. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • May be required to deploy on missions on short notice at the direction of the
    PMO.
