Essential Responsibilities:

1)     Prepare environmental research project feasibility and progress reports.

2)     Coordinate activities of research personnel conducting successive phases of problem analysis, solution proposals, and testing.

3)     Review technical aspects of project to assist staff and assess productivity of lines of research.

4)     Review project operations to ensure coordination of efforts and timely submission of reports.

5)     Analyze reports to evaluate program effectiveness and budgetary needs.

6)     Approve expenditures necessary for completion of project.

7)     Coordinate planning, testing, and operating phases to complete project.

8)     Confer with local regulatory agencies to discover local environmental quality standards, industrial practices, and new developments in pollution abatement.

9)     Provide technical assistance to agencies conducting related environmental studies.

10)   Determine data collection methods to be employed in research projects and surveys.

11)   Plan and develop research models.

12)   Identify and analyze sources of pollution to determine their effects.

13)   Collect and synthesize data derived from pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information, and soil or water samples.

14)   Prepare graphs, charts, and statistical models from synthesized data.

15)   Analyze data to assess pollution problems, establish standards, and develop approaches for control of pollution.

16)   Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations.

17)   Knowledge of Safety and Continuous Improvement Programs.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university with five (5) years related experience and/or training in Environmental Safety; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), Tier II, and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) preferred.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must have knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations and of Safety and Continuous Improvement Programs.  Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
