SITE SAFETY & HEALTH OFFICER (SSHO)

Summary:

Contract position as SSHO on a design/build contract for a two story dormitory building at the BitmigerTraining Area in Almaty, Kazakhstan in support of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).  SSHO is responsible for overseeing and ensuring implementation of the prime contractor’s Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program according to the contract, EM 385-1-1, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.  Will report to corporate Safety and Health Manager, and will work closely with Project Construction Superintendent and QC Manager. 

Position Responsibilities (not all inclusive):

  • The SSHO is responsible for implementing and documenting monthly safety meetings and daily worker toolbox meetings.
  • Deliver new employee orientation and SOH training that meets regulatory, USACE and Amentum requirements.
  • Inspect and audit work areas daily for compliance.
  • Identify, control, and track hazards to closure.
  • Investigate safety incidents for root causes and corrective actions.
  • Keep site and corporate leadership informed.
  • Prepare safety reports and present to site and corporate management as required. Track all safety metrics.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety.
  • Handle confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy and with the highest degree of professionalism. 
  • Communicate professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, Quality Assurance procedures, and safety practices. 

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years of continuous safety experience in supervising safety and/or managing safety programs or processes on a similar project.
  • 30-hour OSHA course or an equivalent is mandatory.

Expected Skills and Competencies: 

  • Minimum intermediate level computer skills with MS Office Suite experience to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Competent at applying OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and USACE standards.
  • Documented Competent Person/Trainer status in Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tag, Respiratory Protection and/or Hearing Conservation is desirable.
  • Possess the competencies, willingness, and ability to perform the duties of position. 

Preferred: 

  • Fluent in English and Russian or Kazakh.
  • Experience working in remote locations or extreme environments (temperature, elevation, known hazards).
