We have an exciting opportunity for a DOD SkillBridge Internship - Avionics Cable Harness & Lab Operations Technologist to join our team with the Engineering Division.

Our company has teamed up with the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge Program to provide career opportunities in:

T his is a temporary role not to exceed 27 weeks.

The DOD SkillBridge Internship - Avionics Cable Harness & Lab Operations Technologist will:

  • Support the EV3 Human Interface Branch
  • Learn to support the development of harness architecture and assist in maintaining wiring documentation, including routing, electrical, and EMC/EMI requirements.

  • Gain experience in creating and reviewing wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and installation drawings for spacecraft avionics systems such as the Command & Data Handling (C&DH) bus and System Inter-connection Documents.
  • Participate in wiring assembly reviews, observing connector, cable, insulation, and connection design practices under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Assist in preparing materials and supporting program reviews, preliminary design reviews, and critical design reviews.
  • Develop communication and collaboration skills while working closely with NASA customers and support contractors
  • Contribute as part of a fast-paced, Agile team while learning industry best practices.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support team goals and expand technical knowledge


NOTE: SkillBridge interns will not be eligible for any compensation during their internship, as they will continue to receive all military pay and benefits. Upon successful completion of this internship, you will be well prepared and encouraged to apply for open positions listed on our careers page.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • To have served at least 180 days in any of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • To be within 180 days of separation or retirement from any of the U.S. Armed Forces (you may start your application prior to the 180 days)
  • Must be on track to receive an Honorable Discharge
  • Must have taken any service TAPS/TGPS
  • Must have attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Must have command approval to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program



Technical:

  • Knowledge of or familiarity with ANSI TIA/EIA 568C.2 Cabling standards and/or IEEE 802.3 cable plant requirements

  • Experience creating wiring diagrams and calculating wire requirement such as size and length.
  • Knowledge on how to test Ethernet Network high speed connectivity and/or serial or other cables (power, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot Avionics with Test Tools.


Professional

  • Proficiency with team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Webex, SharePoint, Confluence, Jira
  • Experience working as part of an Integrated Product Team to develop avionic systems
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude
  • Experience fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
  • Fostering and working in a collaborative team environment
  • Effectively communicate across a wide range of technical disciplines, with vendors/contractors, direct customers and upper management
  • Ability to prepare written documents/presentations and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Must have strong time management and organizational skills
  • Self-starter who can understand and absorb new concepts quickly
  • Must be local to the JSC area and willing to work offsite at the Amentum building and onsite at Johnson Space Center on a regular basis


Requisition Preferences:

  • Enrolled And/or Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in STEM domain area such as Electrical / Aerospace / Physics Etc.
  • Exposed to or have Knowledge of NASA-STD-8739.4 or equal standards
  • Knowledge of techical and engineering principles and associated documentation
  • Knowledge of commonly used NASA concepts, practices, processes and procedures relating to mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
