Primary Responsibilities: The electrical engineer is responsible for ensuring the continuous and dependable performance of electrical systems and infrastructure supporting mission-critical operations at MacDill AFB. Work involves designing and recommending electrical projects and equipment, improving system reliability, reducing downtime, and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. The position offers hands-on experience with federal standards and engineering practices in a high-security environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide design and technical expertise in electrical engineering. Perform project electrical design tasks including calculations and analysis related to power, lighting, communications, fire alarm system, electronic security, infrastructure, and electrical systems.
  • Prepare and present reports on electrical design projects and issues.


• Conduct assessments and root cause analyses on electrical systems including power distribution, backup generators, switchgear, and control systems.

  • Make recommendations for improvements to electrical systems and equipment based on assessments and engineering expertise.
  • Ability to develop and implement maintenance strategies to enhance system reliability.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and upgrade electrical systems for improved dependability and energy efficiency.

• Monitor system performance and maintain detailed records of failures, repairs, and maintenance activities.

  • Participate in preventive and predictive maintenance activities, including data collection.
  • Participate in design reviews to provide recommendations and prevent future failures.
  • Assist in budget preparation and control expenditure.


• Familiar with DoD, NFPA, IEEE, NEC, and other applicable standards and regulations.

• Support commissioning and testing of new electrical installations and modifications.

  • Coordinate system designs and equipment with other Engineers, Architects, and technicians to meet customer needs and ensure projects are properly designed and constructed.
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office applications.


Required Education / Skills: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a program certified by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical design and/or reliability engineering, preferably in a DoD or federal facility.

• Knowledge of construction management software, project closeout procedures, preventive maintenance, construction and repair terminology and processes.

• Thorough knowledge of building codes and standards

• Basic understanding of electrical safety, maintenance practices, and engineering documentation.

• Experience with construction support services for building projects

• Desire to take independent initiative and ownership of work, and an eagerness to learn

• Experience with Federal (DoD, Federal Civilian, or Defense Contractor) projects

Certificate / License / Registration:

Valid Driver’s License

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Travel: Minimal, as required
