PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Amentum has an exciting opportunity for a full-time position in the role of Plumber/Gasfitter to join their team at the Alice Springs Office.

The Plumber/Gasfitter reports to the Maintenance Supervisor with day-to-day activities overseen by the Senior Maintenance Officer You will perform maintenance; repair and renovation work in residential properties in the town of Alice Springs. This includes water and wastewater systems, drains, waste and vent piping, underground water and wastewater piping, backflow devices and LPG and Natural Gas systems. Occasional overtime and callouts may be required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning of tools, equipment, assistance and materials needed to complete tasks

  • Maintenance tasks, either programmed (planned) maintenance or repairs as required.

  • Studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems and materials required

  • Setting out and installing hot and cold-water systems and associated equipment

  • Designing and installing sanitary plumbing and water supply systems, discharge pipes and sanitary fixtures

  • Install and maintain backflow prevention devices

  • Install and maintain thermostatic mixing valves

  • Installing and repairing below-ground drainage systems and associated ground support systems

  • Installing gas appliances, flues and pressure regulating devices

  • Tasks for project type work as required

  • Liaise with others to notify and organize tasks to be undertaken as required

  • Ensure as much as possible that equipment is maintained to operate in a safe manner

  • Report any incidents to management as a priority

  • Use of computer systems to record and plan work tasks

  • Work as part of a team

  • Assist in other areas of facilities and maintenance area from time to time as required

  • Work to ensure that safety is an integral part of everyday activities

  • Other duties as directed by the Vesta management team

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Essential

  • Trade Qualification – Cert IV in Plumbing and Services.
  • Ability to work within a team environments
  • Ability to work professionally with minimal supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
  • Good communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and successfully complete assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyse issues and develop solutions to problems.

Desirable:

  • Certifying Plumber with Building Practitioners Board

  • Training in appropriate safety procedures (i.e., Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights, Electrical Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Lockout/Tagout, Working in Trenches etc.)

  • Strategic with proven project management skills.

TICKETS AND LICENCES

Minimum Essential

  • Current Driver’s Licence

  • Gasfitters Licence

Desirable

  • Restricted Electrical Licence

EXPERIENCE – Minimum Essential

At least 2 years’ experience as a trade qualified plumber.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Alice Springs climate ranges from cold winters to hot summers.

Plumbing tasks include digging, trenching, working on roofs and in roof cavities in these conditions.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT

It is a condition of employment at JDFPG that employees obtain and retain the appropriate level of security clearance and medical clearance applicable to each role. The employee will require a NV-1/SECRET Department of Defense Security Clearance (Australian) or SSBI (U.S.) clearance.

STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIREMENTS

All personnel assigned to work at JDFPG shall be:

· At least 18 years of age.

· Able to fluently read, write and speak English

EHS REQUIREMENT

All Vesta personnel are responsible for understanding and complying with all site environmental, health and safety requirements. While Vesta is responsible for providing a safe workplace and is responsible for ensuring compliance with requirements of the JDFPG Handbook, each person is responsible for:

· Completing work task in a safe manner

· Reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to their supervisor and/or Vesta PMO/EHS Manager

· Continuous adherence to the environmental, health and safety procedures outlined in the JDFPG Handbook during the performance of their work

· Red-Carding a Job - Employee right and responsibility to “STOP WORK” if a job is unsafe or possess a danger to the environment
