Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Safety Manager to support a pending contract award based in El Paso.

Responsible for the management and administration of safety field operations and programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment to include modification of safety-related activities and plans to specific contracts in compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements.  Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain applicable safety and health procedures and practices in compliance with corporate, state, federal and local regulations and contract requirements.
  • Promote the implementation of occupational safety programs, procedures and activities.
  • Promote the current OSHA compliant culture throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate safety process development, implementation, and compliance of all subcontracts.
  • Manage safety audit program for field and construction locations to ensure compliance with various contractual, regulatory and company requirements.
  • Participate and support integration at the site level to address site-related safety, quality, health and welfare to include environmental concerns.
  • Provide guidance to managers and supervisors to assist in the interpretation and compliance of safety and health-related contract requirements.
  • Coordinate field investigations for injury, property damage and vehicle incidents to ensure thorough investigations and appropriate root cause identification.
  • Conduct special evaluations and internal safety and health field surveys/audits. 
  • Compile reports and findings of surveys and audits for review and makes corrective action recommendations and tracks to closure as required.
  • Manage field and construction safety operations.
     

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, environmental, health and safety management or other associated discipline.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in government contracting, U.S. Military or related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Eight (8) years’ progressively responsible experience in any combination within program management, plant & operations management, or safety & environmental compliance. 
  • Two (2) years management experience preferred. 
  • Advanced knowledge of EHS policies and processes. 
  • Working knowledge of compliance with Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) handling. 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. 
  • Project planning and management skills. 
  • Ability to get results through influence, negotiation and teamwork. 
  • Proven leadership ability. 
  • Working knowledge of quality management, its concepts, techniques, tools and procedures.


Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communications, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Must be able to access hazard operational areas which may include the wearing of PPE for periodic oversite of operational activities.
